Are you familiar with Shibuya scramble crossing?
Even you have never visited Japan before, you probably have heard about it.
Shibuya scramble crossing is known as one of the most famous intersection in the world.
There
are not only Japanese tourist from other prefectures, but also tourist
from many different countries visit this place, and take photos or
videos.
When you actually visit there yourself, you will be amazed by massive amount of people crossing.
People cross over from 4 major different directions.
Sometimes,
around 3,000 people cross at a time at most, and throughout a day, up
to 300,000 people cross this intersection every each day in average.
If
you want to experience the biggest rush hour when massive amount of
people gather to this intersection, I highly recommend either Friday
night or Saturday night.
Although Shibuya
scramble crossing is one of the top Tokyo's most popular, must-visit
tourist spot, recently some issues are being concerned.
To
give an example, on Halloween week, or the day of the World Cup games,
or any kinds of exciting events, Shibuya scramble crossing and areas
around it will be packed with many people, especially young people.
Sometimes, those young people go too far street partying, and things get out of control and in utter chaos.
Tipping over the truck, excessive drinking, debauchery and so on...
Police officers will be out in force on those event days, making their best effort to ensure everyone's safety.
One
of the unique way police officers try to prevent problems and maintain
the safe and fun environment, they set a megaphone on top of their
vehicle, controlling crowds not to get too crazy, and sometimes making
funny comments.
This humorous way of commenting to crowds to
keep them calm has become more and more popular among people, and now
known as " DJ police" .
Despite there effort, still some young people run riot against police, and destroy public things.
Also, it is very unfortunate that after the event, there are many trash, empty bottles thrown on the street.
Getting back to characteristics of Shibuya scramble crossing, you cannot miss the Hachiko Statue.
Hachiko Statute is placed right outside of the Shibuya station.
It is most known as a meeting spot, and people meet up their friends, family, love ones, etc here.
You can almost never see Hachiko Statue without tons of people gathering.
It is just always filled with many people all time.
There is a Starbucks Coffee right across, and this is also used for meeting spot in Shibuya.
Walking across the Shibuya scramble crossing, you will see a street called " Center-Gai".
Here, you can enjoy many different fast food restaurants, shops, night clubs, karaoke, maid cafe and many other exciting things.
There are so many things you can do, so many options you can choose from, so it is totally up to you how you enjoy!
Shibuya is definitely worth checking out when you come to Japan.
